  • African Studies, Minor
  • The African Studies minor is an interdisciplinary program that seeks to deepen your knowledge and understanding of the history and cultures of Africa and the African diaspora. The minor spans the humanities, the social sciences, and African and African-American literature.

Why Should You Minor in African Studies?

Although Africa faces enormous challenges in the new millennium — globalization, democratization, poverty, environmental degradation, AIDS, and conflict — the continent has frequently been neglected. Exploring some of these issues provides the opportunity to discover the diversity of ethnic, linguistic, religious, and social traditions that have informed the rich cultural heritage of contemporary Africa.
